Mayor LaChapelle appointed to  Unlocking Housing Production Commission

Easthampton, MA - Mayor Nicole LaChapelle was sworn in as a member of the Unlock Housing Commission yesterday in Boston. By Executive Order, Governor Healey created the Commission to empower Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Edward M. Augustus unclog housing pathways.

Mayor LaChapelle expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "I am honored to be appointed to the Unlock Housing Commission by Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll. This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to find innovative solutions for affordable housing challenges in our community and beyond. I’m proud to bring the voice of municipalities to the table as we explore creative options for local government."

Mayor LaChapelle, representing municipal leadership, will bring that unique perspective to the commission, contributing to developing inclusive and effective strategies with an eye towards on-the-ground solutions for cities and towns across the Commonwealth. The composition of the Commission reflects a collaborative approach to work with Secretary Augustus, including key officials such as Secretary of Administration and Finance Matt Gorzkowicz, Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development Yvonne Hao, and others. The Unlock Housing Commission delivers a report covering various aspects, including analyzing legislation, regulations, and practices influencing housing development. This encompasses zoning bylaws, environmental laws, building codes, and permitting procedures. The commission will also provide recommendations for legislative, regulatory, and policy changes to facilitate housing production.

The swearing-in ceremony for Mayor LaChapelle as a member of the Unlock Housing Commission took place on Monday, January 29th, at the Massachusetts State House.
