City Council and School Committee Convention to Fill Two Vacancies
Easthampton, MA - this month, the process will begin to fill the two vacant seats on the School Committee. Two members of the School Committee have resigned from their positions, leaving two vacancies. Per Easthampton’s Home Rule Charter, the City Council, in conjunction with the School Committee, are responsible for filling these vacancies.
Interested Easthampton residents, at least 18 years old and registered voters, can apply for one of the two open positions. Qualified residents can submit a statement of interest to the City Clerk by May 15, 2023, via US mail: Office of the City Clerk, 50 Payson Ave, Easthampton, MA 01027 or email cityclerk@easthamptonma.gov. The city encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply to the Committee composition that reflects its constituents.
“The City Council and School Committee are committed to ensuring this process is transparent and fair. The public will remain informed throughout the selection process as we will hold all meetings in a hybrid format,” said City Council President Homar Gomez.
The process will begin with a meeting on May 10th at 7:00 pm, where the Council and Committee will lay the groundwork and set the rules of the convention. The second meeting will be on May 18th at 7:15 pm, where they will listen to the potential candidates. The final meeting will be held on May 31st at 6:00 pm for a final vote of the two new members.
“We look forward to welcoming new members to the School Committee who share our commitment to the success of our students and community,” said School Committee Chairwoman Cynthia Kwiecinski.
