Envision the Future of Main Street meeting postponed!

Easthampton, MA – Due to the impending snowstorm, the community meeting for the Main Street Transportation Improvement Project (TIP) has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 28, 2023.  The meeting will occur at the Easthampton Congregational Church 116 Main Street at 6 p.m.  Transportation from the Council on Aging and childcare from the High School National Honor Society will still be available.

We want to learn what brings you to Main Street, what you like most about it, and what could be improved. The project seeks to create a Main Street that will improve safety, transit, walking, and bicycling infrastructure, street trees, green infrastructure, public space, loading zones, and park access, and the design will employ traffic calming to lower vehicle speeds to make downtown Easthampton safer and more attractive for all users. The estimated $13.7 million dollar project will primarily be funded by the state under the TIP program and will be designed by McMahon Associates of Westfield.

This once-in-a-century project will transform Main Street into a safer, more accessible place for everyone and provide more space for business and community while maintaining its historic character,” said Mayor Nicole LaChapelle.

Main Street, like Union Street before it, has some of the oldest infrastructure in the City and is the next logical place for a TIP project,” said DPW Director Greg Nuttelman.

The first community meeting will introduce the Main Street project to the public, provide the design schedule and milestones, and be followed by break-out groups to develop ideas and help the City and the design team determine community-identified priorities as the project design commences.
