Easthampton Commission on Disability releases reminder to clear your sidewalks
Last fall, the Commission on Disability conducted a survey of disabled members of the Easthampton community. The responses (click here to see all the responses) showed concern with the condition of the city's network of sidewalks and crosswalks, and one of the problematic factors mentioned was the inadequacy of efforts to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
“We all know how hard it is to get around town when there’s a snowstorm and the difficulty is greatly magnified for members of our community who have mobility and other issues and must depend on our sidewalks and walkways being free of snow and ice”, said Angelique Baker, Chair of Easthampton’s Commission on Disability.
The COD and Easthampton Media have worked over past year to produce a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about individual property owners' responsibility under current policy to clear snow and ice from sidewalks on their property.
The PSA is now ready for distribution and can be viewed on the City’s website and Easthampton Media’s YouTube. Click here to watch the video.
We hope to update the PSA with more Easthampton-specific footage this winter and begin to tackle some of the other issues identified in the survey with the City Council Public Safety Committee.

Thank you for your attention.
