Mayor LaChapelle would like to invite you to our third Undoing Racism 3-day workshop hosted by the People's Institute for City employees and community members.

The Undoing Racism Workshop: Is roughly 6 hours per day over the course of 3 days; participants will experience a humanistic process for laying a foundation to explore how we have been socialized and conditioned to think about race and racism by first analyzing class, power, and institutional/individual relationships to and within communities. As power is analyzed, concepts will be introduced that play a role in maintaining the current disparate racial outcomes that every system and institution produces.

The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond was formed in 1980 by Dr. Jim Dunn and Ron Chisom, who worked to establish a training institute that provides not only community organizing skills but an analysis, principles, and values that make these skills useful. The multiracial team of organizers/trainers includes more than 40 men and women whose anti-racist organizing expertise includes years with civil, labor, and welfare rights struggles, educational, foster care, social services, and health reform movements, as well as youth and grassroots community organizing. They have trained thousands of people across the world.
The workshop will be on:

Friday, September 16, 2022 (4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, with dinner provided)
Saturday, September 17, 2022 (10:00 am - 5:00 pm, with snacks and lunch provided)

Through Undoing Racism®/Community Organizing Workshops, technical assistance and consultations, The People’s Institute helps individuals, communities, organizations and institutions move beyond addressing the symptoms of racism to undoing the root causes of racism so as to create a more just and equitable society.
