The Easthampton Health Department will host a community event and vigil on Monday, August 29, 2022, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD). This is a global day of remembrance, which takes place every year on August 31st to remember loved ones who have lost their lives to overdose.
International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) seeks to create a better understanding of overdose, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and create change that reduces the harms associated with drug use.
Easthampton Health Department elected to host their event on August 29th to provide an opportunity for members of local communities to attend several events during the week. Other cities, including Holyoke, Westfield, and Northampton, are also recognizing this important day throughout the week.
The Easthampton event will take place from 4pm to 7pm at Nashawannuck Pond. Resource tables from agencies across Hampshire County will be available for anyone interested as well as an opportunity to light a candle and remember a loved one.
If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Elizabeth Plouffe, LICSW, Community Social Worker, or Bridget Diggins, RN, MPH, Community Public Health Nurse, at 413-529-1400.
