About Us
The Easthampton Fire Department is located in Hampshire County in western Massachusetts. We are a full time career department consisting of 31 firefighters that respond from one strategically located fire station near the center of the city. Our department has four shifts, staffed by all career firefighters that work a rotating 24-hour schedule for an average of 42-hours per week. Each of our shifts are staffed with seven personnel that can drop down to a minimum of five personnel per the union contract before having to backfill with additional personnel. The department relies heavily on callback procedures to bring back personnel off duty during peak demand periods for simultaneous emergencies that deplete the on-duty shift. The department’s front line apparatus include 2 Engines, 1 Tower Ladder, 3 ambulances, 1 Brush Truck, and 1 boat. Our organization provides all-hazards response capabilities including fire suppression and paramedic level ambulance service to our 16,003 residents over 17 square miles. In July 2020, Easthampton signed a contract with the neighboring town of Westhampton to become the primary provider for EMS services to their community. This adds approximately 1,700 more residents to our primary response district that are dispersed over 27 square miles.
